High Self Esteem, the Foundation to Success
Michalis 'BIG Mike' Kotzakolios
Defined Tag: Self Esteem.
Introduction
Most people's way of thinking and opinion about
themselves varies somewhat based on their daily experiences. The
ratings you get on an assessment, how well or how bad your friends
treated you, turbulent romantic relationships - all these factors
have a temporary impact on your happiness.
An individual
feeling of self worth is something far more essential than the
common "ups and downs" linked with transitory situational changes.
For individuals with high self esteem, these typical "ups and downs"
lead to momentary variations in how they feel about themselves, but
only to a limited degree. But for individuals suffering from poor or
low self esteem, these normal "highs and lows" in life, end up
making all the difference.
Our self esteem develops and
alters all through our lives, as we form an image of ourselves
through our experiences with different people and situations. Our
childhood experiences play an especially large role in the
determining and shaping our basic self esteem. When we are growing
up, our achievements or disappointments, and how our family members,
friends, teachers, instructors and peers treated us, all contribute
to the formation of our fundamental self esteem.
Individuals
with true self esteem are truly in charge of their lives. They take
full responsibility for whatever that happens in their lives,
without blaming others. If relationships are not working in their
life, instead of finding faults with others they question
themselves; what is it in me that is repelling this person or what
am I doing wrong to create this kind of situation. If their finances
are not what they desire they ask: what can I do to improve this
situation. They tap into their creative, intuitive side to
accomplish this task. These individuals do not fritter away time
lamenting there is never enough, if only I had a better work, if
only this, if only that.
Conclusion
Low self esteem
only results from you having or maintaining a pitiable self-image of
yourself caused by your attitude or approach towards life. Example:
You may keep lamenting on lost opportunities while new ones zip past
you daily or even worse you may feel you have no purpose in life.
High self esteem is exactly the opposite! It is a very significant
characteristic of your life. If you maintain a high self-image of
yourself, you will eventually be more confident, contented and sure
of yourself. Consequently, you will stay focused, remain highly
motivated and have the right attitude to succeed in life. Thus, the
self esteem you preserve is fundamental to you, and is the
foundation of a positive approach towards life. Remember, real
success comes from knowing what is important to you and being who
you were really born to be.
